The editors have decided to publish one of several letters to Faub that address the “cult” status of the Church Church of Faub. While we can’t respond to every inquiry about the Faub organization, we feel that this correspondence best encapsulates many of the questions being leveled at this controversial organization.

Is the Church Church of Faub a cult?!? It sounds like a cult to me. If it is a cult, what the hell are you thinking? Do you have any idea what kind of damage cults do in this world? Remember Jim Jones? The Mansoon Family (sic) killings? David Koresh in Waco? People die for these cults and you think it’s funny? - Seriously Pissed

Yes, the Church Church of Faub is a cult. It’s actual full legal name is “The Cult of the Church Church of Faub.” While this name dissolves any chance of us qualifying as an exempted religion, we believe that it’s best to be up front about our practices. Damn the potential tax write-offs.
What is a cult? Merriam Webster defines a cult as: “a religion regarded as unorthodox or spurious,” or as “ great devotion to a person, idea, object, movement, or work (as a film or book); especially : such devotion regarded as a literary or intellectual fad”. We like both of these definitions. The word “cult” encapsulates us, nicely.
The difference between us and the rest of the world’s cults is that we advertise that we are a cult. It’s right in our name, for Faub’s sake. We have no qualms about being labeled a cult, because we labeled it, ourselves, smart mouth! We have taken ownership of the word and all of it’s spurious connotations. Faub is a cult-like figure with a (small but potential) cult-like following. I worship his written words with a sick, blind-headed devotion, and I’m proud of that. It’s stupid, I know, but it’s my stupid, and I love it.
I hope this answers some of your questions. And sorry for calling you a “smart mouth.” That was totally out of character for me.
